Jack-Knifed Tractor Trailer Crash Closes Route 28 Tuesday Morning

HAWTHORN, Pa. (EYT) — A jack-knifed tractor trailer blocked a portion of Route 28 near Hawthorn this morning for approximately 90 minutes.

According to Hawthorn Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Curt Kiehl, the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. when a tractor trailer heading north on Route 28 attempted to turn onto Route 538.

“He missed the turn onto Route 536 and continued up Route 28 before trying to turn right onto Dairy Road and that’s where he jack-knifed (the truck),” Kiehl said.

“Traffic was backed up for at least a couple of miles,” Kiehl said. “A farmer came up and helped us get him hooked up and towed out of there,” Kiehl said.

The road was blocked from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
