CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Clarion Borough may vote on entering a mutual aid agreement with other area police departments.

According to Clarion Borough Chief of Police William Peck IV, the measure will be presented at the next borough meeting, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5.

The agreement, if approved, would protect police officers from one jurisdiction when they enter another to render assistance to a neighboring borough police department.

“It covers everyone from liability if something were to happen, such as a traffic accident,” Peck said. “And, it goes both ways, if police from another department enter our jurisdiction to help with a major incident or a disaster situation, they are covered.”

Brookville Borough will also consider the mutual aid agreement at its next meeting — also scheduled for July 5.

According to Brookville Chief of Police Jason Brown, Punxsutawney Borough has already approved a mutual aid agreement.
