UPDATE: Driver Dies at Hospital After Crashing Tractor Trailer into Woods

BEAVER TWP., Clarion Co. (EYT) — The driver in a tractor trailer accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 80 westbound in Beaver Township died early this morning at a Pittsburgh-area hospital.

According to Clarion County 9-1-1, emergency crews were dispatched at 1:42 p.m. for a report of a tractor trailer accident near mile marker 51.

The tractor trailer was traveling west when — for unknown reasons — it exited the roadway and crashed into a wooded area.

The driver, whose name was not released, was transported from the scene by Clarion Hospital’s LifeFlight to Allegheny General Hospital.

The Allegheny County Coroner’s office confirmed to Knox Ambulance personnel that the driver died at the hospital around 4 a.m. Thursday.

Clarion-based State Police, Knox Volunteer Fire Company, Knox Ambulance, and Bauer Truck Repair were also dispatched to the scene.

The scene was cleared at 3:30 p.m, according to Clarion County 9-1-1.

Police have not yet released specific details on the crash.
