Gaunt20170722_13521768Reginald “Reggie” Leroy Gaunt, 88, of Summerville, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at Penn Highlands Hospital of Brookville.

Born March 27, 1929, in South Bethlehem, PA, he was the son of the late Orion and Clara Gaunt.

Mr. Gaunt attended school in New Bethlehem and later served in the United States Army.

On April 13, 1950, he married the former Dorothy Evelyn Haugh in Maryland; she survives.

Mr. Gaunt was formerly employed by Shaffer Manufacturing Company (Gresen Oil) as a petroleum product salesman. He later found his greatest passion as a pastor. He even helped found the First Assembly of God Church in Clarion, the church in which he carried out his work.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Brookville. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast, especially Harley Davidson motorcycles, and he enjoyed refurbishing cars and mechanic work.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gaunt is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry B. and Russ Sweitzer of Brookville. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Melissa, Angela, Tonya, and Kenny and his great-grandson, Dillon.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Reginald Reed Gaunt, who passed away on June 12, 2005; a brother, Orion Gaunt; and three sisters, Jane, Pat, and infant, Violet.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, July 24, 2017, from 11AM to 1PM at Furlong Funeral Home, corner of Broad St. and First Ave. in Summerville. A funeral service will directly follow the visitation at 1PM at the funeral home with Pastor Henry Scoff of the First Church of God in Brookville officiating.

Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Clover Twp., Jefferson County.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
