Dog Causes Two-Vehicle, I-80 Construction Zone Crash in Clarion Township

CLARION TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police say a two-vehicle accident occurred on Friday evening on Interstate 80 West, at mile marker 66.1, in Clarion Township.

According to police, this crash involved 72-year-old Janice A. Distefano, of Lake Placid, Florida, and 29-year-old Patrick S. Wedlake, of Boalsburg, Pa.

According to police, around 5:13 p.m. on July 21, Wedlake began slowing down his commercial truck for stopped traffic in a construction zone. A 2004 Lincoln Town Car, driven by Distefano, was approaching the rear of the truck.

Police say Distefano had a dog jump up on her lap and failed to notice the commercial truck in front of her slow down. The front bumper of the Lincoln struck the rear bumper of Wedlake’s truck.

After the initial impact, the Lincoln continued west on I-80 and came to a rest off the roadway facing west. The commercial truck came to a rest facing west.

Both drivers were using seat belts and escaped injuries.

Distefano was charged with a traffic violation.

Leadbetter’s removed the vehicles from the scene.
