Franklin-based State Police say 32-year-old Benjamin E. Nixon, of Brookville, and 52-year-old David Kavleli, of Brooklyn, New York, were involved in the collision.

According to police, this crash happened as a 2013 Dodge Durango, driven by Nixon, was traveling east on I-80, east of mile marker 32. Nixon’s Durango hit Kavleli’s 2016 Freightliner as the tractor trailer was slowing down for an upcoming construction zone.

According to Mercer-based State Police, 65-year-old John D. Snyder, of Parker, and 36-year-old Michael G. Silvis, of Oil City, were involved in the collision.

Police say this crash happened as a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Snyder, was traveling east in the right lane of I-80 at approximately 70 mph. A 2014 Kenworth tractor trailer, driven by Silvis, was coming to a stop in the right lane of travel due to a backlog of vehicles caused by the previous crash that occurred near mile marker 32.

Snyder failed to notice the tractor trailer stopped in the lane in front of him, and his pickup rear-ended it.

Snyder became entrapped inside the pickup and had to be extricated by mechanical means. He was using a seat belt.

He suffered serious injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

Silvis was using a seat belt and did not report any injuries.

The Chevrolet Silverado sustained major damage, and the Kenworth sustained minor damage.

They were towed from the scene by Hovis Towing.

Pine Township Fire Department, Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Superior Ambulance assisted at the scene.
