TAYLOR GEER — SENIOR — KEYSTONE

Daughter of: Julie Hovis

Sports Played: Cross Country, Basketball, Track & Field

2016-17 Highlights: Taylor was the sixth-leading scorer in District 9 girls’ basketball this past season averaging 18.6 points per game and earned second-team All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com All-District 9 honors. She also finished 24th at the District 9 1A cross country championships in a time of 22:41.70 while taking 11th in the 1,600-meter run at the D9 2A track & field championships in a time of 6:14.62.

Post-High School Goals: She plans on attending either Carnegie Mellon University or Seton Hill University and major in Biomedical Engineering. She hopes to play basketball in college.

Q&A With Taylor Geer

D9Sports: What is your favorite sport to participate in?
TG: Basketball

D9: What is your favorite memory, moment, game from playing high school sports?
TG: Being D9 champs my sophomore year in basketball.

D9: Why do you play high school sports?
TG: I enjoy running which is why I do cross country and track and I have always loved basketball. Being able to have great teammates and accomplishing and setting goals together makes me happy.

D9: Is there a high school player on your team or another team that you enjoy watching play? If so, why?
TG: I enjoy watching my sister Kenzie (Hovis) play. She inspires me to keep calm and she helps lead our team which is very important. She also doesn’t ever get down on herself and is encouraging to everyone. She’s also a really scrappy player and a good outside shooter.

D9: When not playing sports I would rather (pick one) — Go to work, play video games, shop, hang out with friends, play pickup sports, go the movies
TG: I like to play pickup sports.

D9: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
TG: I don’t think I could just pick one place as in the future. I hope to travel the world and experience new people and places.

D9: Who has had the most influence on you as a person?
TG: My nana, mom, and sister.

D9: What do you like most about growing up in your hometown?
TG: The close ties you can make within your school and other schools because of the short distance and small schools.

D9: What do you wish you could change about growing up in your hometown?
TG: Having more things to do around it.

D9: What question do you wish I would have asked you? And what is the answer to it?
TG: What my goals are for this school year- to achieve my high A’s throughout the year continuing on principles list and possibly being valedictorian or salutatorian and excelling in my sports as well.

D9: Do you or have you had any siblings or other immediate relatives who have played high school sports?
TG: My sister Kenzie (Hovis)- volleyball and basketball my cousins Ava Homan and Lindsay Homan (Venango Catholic) and Devin and Connor Zagar (Venango Catholic) and Dakota Geer (Franklin; state championship wrestler) and as well a large amount of my great aunts and uncles and parents.
