Thumbnail-39Mary J. Vogus, 76, of Franklin, passed away on August 8th, 2017 at 7:30 am at her residence.

Born on July 27, 1941 in Shelby, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Rosa Sweeney Brown.

Mrs. Vogus worked as a Dietary Aide for Polk Center for 30 years. She was an avid bowler and bowled in “Scotch” Doubles with her late husband Clair. She also liked to crochet, read and play card games like pinochle, solitaire and scat. She also loved going to yard sales and finding things to add to her knickknack collection. She especially loved family gatherings and her beloved wiener dog, “Jill”. Mary liked baking for everyone and will always be remembered for her banana bread.

She is survived by her son, James Parker and his husband, Michael Hovis, of Harrisville; her daughter Andrea Ciko, of Franklin; her “adopted” daughter Marivic “Vicky” Jackson, of Oil City; her “adopted” grandchildren Michaela Lockwood, Shanay Jackson, and Ashia Jackson. She is further survived by her brothers Lynn Brown, of South Carolina, and Paul R. Brown and his wife Linda, of Kennerdell; her sister-in-law Jeanne Brown, of Utica; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clair Vogus; brothers Garland “Ralph”, Willard “Avery”, Harold “James”, and Eugene “Dick” Brown; sisters Ruby Bopp and Evangeline “Angie” Ward, sisters-in-law Gertrude Brown, and Darlene Brown.

Family and Friends are invited to the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Friday, August 11, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11am on Saturday, August 12, 2017 with Dennis Jones, Retired Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Clintonville.
