Dennis C. Stitt Sr.

4339203Dennis C. Stitt Sr., 69 of 3818 Cherry Run Rd. Rimersburg, passed away at 1:00 P.M. Monday August 14, 2017 at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 20, 1948 in Cherry Run, Toby Twp., Clarion Co. he was the son of Granville and Mabel Murray Stitt.

Dennis was U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and Army Commendation Medal as a Sharpshooter.

Dennis was married on August 27, 1966 to Katherine Deitz and she survives.

He worked all his life as a sheet metal fabricator and welder and last worked at Miller Welding in Brookville.

Dennis was a member of the VFW Post 7132 and the Shearer-Shick American Legion Post 454 of Rimersburg and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by 2 sons; Lt. Col. Dennis Stitt Jr. and wife Tanya of Hammett, Idaho and Edward Stitt and wife Ann Marie of Willowick, Ohio, a daughter Kimberly Stitt and Jonny May of Howard Ohio, and 8 grandchildren; Tia, Josh, Paige, Anthony, Sam, Grace, Chance, and Dennis III. He is also survived by 3 sisters; Jean Bigley of New Middleton, Ohio, Geraldine Unger of Niles, Ohio and Mary Smith and husband Frank of Parker, and 3 brothers and their wives Bob and Kathy Stitt of Huey, Ray and Ethel Stitt of Rimersburg, and Gerald and Gwen Stitt of Rimersburg, and many cousins and nieces and nephews.

Dennis’ family will receive friends from 2–4 and 6–8 P.M. Thursday August 17, 2017 at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday August 18, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Hunsberger of the St. Mark’s Church in Kossuth, officiating.

Interment with full military honors accorded by the ceremonial squads of the VFW and American Legion of Rimersburg, will follow at Cedarview Memorial Park near Strattanville.

His family suggests memorial donations be made to the Rimersburg Veteran’s Park and Museum, Main St. Rimersburg, PA 16248.
