Newt was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater (also known as the Second European War). He was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the EAME (European–African–Middle Eastern) Campaign Medal.
Newt worked 29 years at the former O.I. Glass Plant in Clarion, retiring in 1987.
A lifelong resident of Sligo, he was a member of the Sligo Sportsman Club and the Hilltop Beagle Club.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events.
Military honors were accorded by the ceremonial squads at the VFW Post 7132 and Shearer-Shick American Legion Post of Rimersburg.
