Hit-and-Run Driver Apprehended in Washington Township

TIONESTA, Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police investigated a hit and run crash that occurred on Saturday, August 21, in Tionesta Borough, Forest County.

Police say the accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Tionesta Library located at 156 Elm Street in Tionesta.

According to police, a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire was traveling through the parking lot and struck a 2016 Honda Odyssey that was legally parked in the parking lot. The driver of the Pontiac failed to stop and make an attempt to notify the driver of the Honda. Witnesses of the crash described the Pontiac which fled the scene south on State Route 36.

The vehicle was spotted by State Police traveling north on Route 36 in Washington Township, Clarion County, several hours after the crash occurred. After a traffic was conducted and interviews with occupants of the vehicle, it was confirmed that this was the car that fled the scene. The driver of the vehicle admitted that he struck the vehicle in the parking lot of the library, police say.

The name of the driver was not released.

No other information was provided.
