Authorities Investigating Jefferson County Arson

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — Authorities are investigating an arson that occurred early Sunday morning in Brockway, Jefferson County.

According to police, the resident noted the smell of smoke near his residence located at 949 5th Avenue, Apartment C, in Brockway, upon returning home at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 20.

After investigating possible sources, a smoldering rag was found near the entryway to the basement on the exterior of the home.

The Brockway Fire Department was dispatched; however, the fire was extinguished using fire extinguishers prior to the arrival of the fire department.

The fire was extinguished before causing any damage to the building.

The PA State Police Fire Marshal Unit was contacted to conduct an origin and cause investigation. Brockway Police Department assisted at the scene.

The investigation is open and evidence will be submitted to the PSP Crime Lab for analysis.
