Agriculture Awareness Day Set for Today at Baytree Farm

EMLENTON, Pa. (EYT) — The Venango Conservation District will be holding its first-ever Agriculture Awareness Day on Saturday, September 9, at Baytree Farm in Emlenton..

The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Baytree Farm, located at 2265 Rockland Nickleville Road, in Emlenton, is a 180-acre sheep farm owned and operated by Warren and Liz Thomas.

There will be fun kid activities during the day, such as face painting, games, and hay rides.

In addition, there will be food from local favorite vendors including Hepler’s Meats, Uncle Jason’s Barbeque, Little It Deli, Scrubgrass Grange, and more.

Agriculture Awareness Day will be a fun-filled day showcasing everything that agriculture has to offer for both farmers and consumers of Venango County and the surrounding areas. Displays and demonstrations will be held throughout the day by local agriculture agencies, businesses, and producers. Agricultural and conservation practices will be demonstrated and presented throughout the day to encourage farmers and landowners to implement best management practices to help conserve farmland, reduce non-point source pollution, and improve water quality.

Demonstrations are scheduled starting at 9:30 a.m. with “Farming with Drones-with the #droneguy-William Thiele.”

At 11:00 a.m., Penn State Center for Dirt and Gravel Roads will be presenting the uses and benefits of Conveyor Belt Diverters as well as demonstrating how to build your own diverter.

At 1:30 p.m., the Natural Resource Conservation Service will demonstrate the Rainfall Simulator and speak on the importance of soil health.

The State Conservation Commission will give a presentation at 2:30 p.m. covering Ag Assistance Programs available to local producers.

The “Mini Excavator Skill Competitions,” offered by Cleveland Brother’s Caterpillar, will be held continually throughout the day.

Froggy live-action broadcast starts at noon.

Baytree Farm is a total grass fed commercial lamb operation, currently raising 200 adult ewes for various markets and individual sales. In addition to lambs, Baytree Farm grows and direct markets pumpkins and fall decorations at the farm, with 2017 marking the 30th anniversary in the pumpkin business. The owners are committed to educating the public about agriculture and open their farm for tours and educational experiences throughout the year.

Agriculture Awareness Day is free to attend and registration is not required but is appreciated.
