Fire Marshal: Sugar Shack Fire Remains Under Investigation
Tpr. Matt Powell says he is still investigating the fire and plans to conduct additional interviews in the coming days.
“I still have some people that I need to talk to,” said Powell in a brief phone interview with exploreClarion.com on Monday.
He would not elaborate further on the nature of the upcoming interviews or any interviews that had already been conducted.
Powell investigated the scene at the Sugar Shack, located along Route 66 just south of Interstate 80, and determined that the fire started in the ceiling or attic.
A cause could not be determined, according to Powell.
Damages are estimated at $300,000.
The building was insured.
The call came in around 3:20 a.m., Thursday, June 29, according to Clarion County Office of Emergency Services.
Police say a passing motorist reported the fire, and when fire companies arrived, the roof had already been burned through.
Fire departments dispatched include Clarion Fire & Hose Company No. 1, Limestone Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Strattanville Volunteer Fire Company.
Clarion-based State Police, Clarion Hospital EMS Ambulance, and West Penn Power were also dispatched to the scene.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was reported to be under control around 5:01 a.m.
The business was last open at 3 a.m. on Sunday, June 25.
Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call PSP-Clarion at 814-226-1710.
