SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — A Shippenville woman who tried to buy a dog via an online advertisement was the victim of a scam, according to Clarion-based State Police.

Police say a 36-year-old woman responded to an ad on Pennswood’s classified section for a free dog. The person said the dog was free, but shipping costs were more than $300.00.

The woman sent the money, but then the person asked for more money due to the shipping container not passing inspection.

When State Police checked the site’s other classified ads, the person’s email, t4real16@gmail.com, was listed for other dogs and cats.

Police also believe this scam was used on other websites.

State Police ask people to be careful when responding to such ads, typically offering expensive dogs and cats for free and the cost of shipping was required.
