Additional Details Released in Deadly Forest County Crash

JENKS TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Marienville-based State Police have released additional information on the fatal crash that occurred early Thursday morning in Jenks Township, Forest County.

According to police, the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, as a 2009 Subaru Legacy was traveling westbound on Guitonville Road, in Jenks Township, Forest County.

Police say the vehicle traveled off the south berm of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle traveled another 35 feet before striking another tree and overturning.

The driver of the Subaru — 20-year-old Brandon Walters, of Tionesta — was transported by EMS for injuries of unknown severity. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A passenger in the Subaru — 20-year-old Taylor Barnett, of Marienville — was pronounced deceased at the scene by Forest County Coroner Norman J. Wimer.

He was called to the scene at 3:56 a.m.

The crashed vehicle was found in the yard of a camp located at 4806 Guitonville Road.

“A nearby camp occupant apparently heard something at approximately 1:30 a.m., later to find out it was the accident,” said Wimer.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Friday morning on Barnett, according to Wimer.

Marienville Volunteer Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
