CLARION, Pa. — After 110 minutes of soccer, Clarion University and visiting Mercyhurst University had to settle for a 1-1, double overtime tie in PSAC women’s soccer action, Wednesday night.

Clarion moves to 1-1-1 on the season while Mercyhurst is still searching for its first win at 0-1-1.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, with the Golden Eagles registering the game’s best chance when a deflected header rang off the crossbar.

Just over 90 seconds into the second half, Clarion’s Aaliyah Odom (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) broke the ice when she headed in a corner kick from teammate Julianna Iocco (Wilmington, Mass., Wilmington), putting the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0.

The lead would be short lived as the Lakers responded less than a minute later when a shot by Kenzie Grenell from outside the box beat Clarion keeper Krista Mosi (South Park, Pa., South Park), knotting the game at 1-1.

Mosi came up big down the stretch and in overtime, making 11 saves in all and helping the Golden Eagles preserve the tie.

Clarion will travel across the state this weekend when they square off with a tough West Chester Rams team on Saturday. West Chester edged Clarion, 1-0 a season ago on their way to an NCAA Atlantic Regional Final appearance. Game time for Saturday is set for 12 p.m.
