HARRISBURG, Pa. — In seeking to protect taxpayers from a state tax increase, Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) yesterday voted in favor of a revenue package that will seek to close out the 2017-18 budget process.

She issued the following statement after the evening vote:

“Our taxpayers have been burdened enough, and throughout the budget cycles of the past few years, we have consistently fought against higher taxes and this one was no exception. We know the people cannot afford to pay more in income or sales taxes and especially cannot afford higher utility bills, which is the other option being put forth.

“My colleagues and I scoured through dozens of different accounts, looking for ways we can close out last year’s budget and balance this one. We found that some special funds – many of which haven’t been tapped in years or have excessive reserves – could instead be reinvested back into the General Fund.

“Of course, we need the Senate and the governor to agree with us so that we can finalize this budget process. Our taxpayers expect us to be good stewards of their dollars, and this plan reflects that priority.”
