CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – While the Cranberry Mall has had its share of difficult times in recent years, it still has plenty to offer area consumers.

According to Jeff Clark, assistant manager of the Cranberry Mall, there is one company that is currently considering opening a large store there.

“There is a big chain that is based in Illinois,” Clark said. “They have locations there, Indiana, Ohio, but none in Pennsylvania. They visited and toured the mall, and they have blueprints. So, hopefully that works out.”

Also, a local business has signed an agreement to lease a vacancy in the mall and will open in January.

Sears, which is closing stores all over the country, will be closing in the next month.

“When Joy (Global) shut down, that was a tipping point for some companies because of the lost jobs,” Clark explained.

“I’ve seen the mall full, and I’ve seen it pretty empty, but we’ve had some other businesses come in, and with the holidays coming, we’ll have seasonal retailers coming in that people enjoy shopping at,” Clark said.

The mall still has large, attractive retailers such as the Bon-Ton, Dunham’s Sporting Goods, and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.

Pa. Pride, a truck driving school has a space in the mall and American Renal Associates, a Massachusetts-based company that has dialysis clinics across the country.

Another new store, JSE Sports Gallery Plus opened last year as a holiday tenet.

“The owner really loves it here, and he decided to stay,” Clark said.

It has team sports merchandise, including the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, and other western Pennsylvania sports teams.

There is quite a bit going on at the mall.

On Saturday, September 16, the mall has three special events.

It begins with a Red Cross blood drive from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The “Get Your Princess On” event, sponsored by the mall and Claire’s, will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Children are invited to wear their princess dresses. There will be activity booths, featuring crown making, nail painting, and more.

Also, Touch-a-Truck will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the 16th. Kids of all ages can climb on, explore, and test lights, sirens, horns, and more, for free.

Family Time Tuesday will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19. Participants can take a chance to win dinner and a movie while enjoying free popcorn and bottled water as magician David Lawrence performs.

On Saturday, September 30, the mall will host the Venango County Household Hazardous and Electronics Collection event. It runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-866-815-0016 or at ESCR.net.

The mall is getting ready for Halloween with the opening of Spirit Halloween, the massive store specializing in all things needed to be at your scariest.

Also, the popular “Dark Ghost Manor” haunted attraction will be open Fridays and Saturdays beginning September 29. Dark Ghost Manor is an interactive horror attraction featuring live actors and special effects.

It is located next to The Movies At Cranberry.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online at darkghostmanor.com.

“They do a really nice job with it, and it’s also ADA accessible, so anyone can go in and enjoy themselves,” Clark said. “There aren’t many that do it, but they do and their aisles are four feet wide, so there’s plenty of room for a wheelchair to go through.”

Also for Halloween, the always-popular Boo Bash will be held on Wednesday, October 25, and a costume pet parade will be held on Saturday, October 28.

In October, in addition to the Halloween events, the Mall and UPMC Northwest will host “Especially for Women,” a health event where testing and screenings can be done on site.

Non-profits are also very welcome at the mall, according to Linda Walker.

“It is free of charge. We have many groups and churches come in to do events and fundraisers,” Walker said. “We also support the Humane Society of Venango County by donating all the coins that are thrown into our fountains.”

November and December feature holiday tenants setting up, such as Hickory Farms.

Saturday, November 18 is a big day for young and old alike as Santa Claus makes his first appearance.

Monday, November 27 is “Deer Widow Day” where free gift bags for the first 150 participants are handed out. Some have free lottery tickets, for those 18 years and older, and mall gift cards. Free Clark donuts and coffee are also available.

Walker also pointed out the Customer Service Center where people can buy lottery tickets and mall gift cards for any store in the Cranberry Mall.

It also has wheelchairs and strollers that mall customers can use free of charge. Kiddie Cruisers do have a small rental fee.
