Friday’s Football Recaps: Ginn’s Late Field Goal Lifts Union/ACV to First Win; Keystone Tops Moniteau

FOXBURG, Pa. (D9Sports) — Jeff Ginn hit a 34-yard field goal with 1:35 to play, the first field goal he attempted in his career, and Union/A-C Valley rallied from a 20-6 deficit late in the first half to beat visiting St. Marys, 23-20, at A-C Valley’s football field.

It was a big night for Ginn, who also threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Greg Duncan on a halfback option toss and came away with a key sack on St. Marys’ final drive.

Duncan scored all three of the Falcon Knights scores also hauling in a pair of 21-yard touchdown passes from Lucas Bowser, the first of which got Union/A-C Valley (1-4) within eight, 20-12, at halftime, and the second coming nine seconds into the fourth quarter to make it 20-18. He then tied the game on a two-point conversion run.

St. Marys (0-4) got a pair of first-half scoring runs from Tim Beimel and another from Carter Julian in building the 14-point lead.

KEYSTONE 26, MONITEAU 17

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. — Corey Rapp scored four touchdowns in three different ways to lead Keystone to its second win of the year, 26-17, at Moniteau.

Rapp ran for scores of 13 and 22 yards in the first quarter then added a 1-yard touchdown catch from Nate Wingard in the third quarter to put the Panthers (2-2), who led 14-9 at halftime, ahead 20-9 after three quarters. Finally, after Moniteau had scored to make it 20-17 with 7 ½ minutes left, Rapp returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for his fourth quarter.

Rapp, who added an interception and eight tackles on defense, finished the game with 82 yards rushing on 21 carries and caught four passes for 27 yards. Wingard was 3 of 14 passing for 23 yards and the score.

Manny McLean score on a 13-yard run for Moniteau (2-2) in the first quarter and Chance Nagy added a 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. Steven Fawcett also hit a 29-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

Nagy was 15 of 31 passing for 183 yards but was intercepted four times. McLean ran 19 times for 110 yards and the touchdown. Nick Martino had seven catches for 81 yards.

BROOKVILLE 53, REDBANK VALLEY 22

BROOKVILLE, Pa. — Climbing back into the game after a 10-0 first-quarter deficit, Brookville celebrated its Homecoming Night with a 53-22 win over Redbank Valley Friday night.

The Raiders (4-1) outscored the Bulldogs (2-2), 40-12, over the final three quarters as quarterback Jack Krug completed 16 of 24 passes for 241 yards and five touchdowns, two each to Bryan Dworek and Nick Keth.

Dworek caught nine passes for 80 yards scoring on two second-half touchdown strikes from Krug covering 31 and 24 yards. In the third quarter, he also returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown for the second time in his career, a big turning point in the game when the Bulldogs were down 26-16 and knocking on the end zone door. Dworek also added 86 yards in kick and punt return yardage and boomed two punts of 62 and 56 yards.

Krug threw a 26-yard touchdown to Keth in the first half and a 16-yarder in the third quarter and connected with Cabe Park on a 53-yard touchdown in the first half. Brandon McGranor ran for 98 yards on 14 carries with a 10-yard TD run to open the second half and put the Raiders up 26-16.

The Bulldogs led 10-0 after the first quarter on Clint Thurston’s 3-yard run and 29-yard field goal. Quarterback Keaton Kahle, who completed 8 of 18 passes for 127 yards, threw a 39-yard TD pass to Ethan Hetrick in the second quarter, but was also involved in two plays resulting in Raiders safeties. On a broken play after a bad center snap in shotgun formation, Kahle tried to throw the ball away, but wound up throwing it behind the line of scrimmage and out of the end zone. He was also called for intentional grounding while throwing out of his own end zone, resulting in another safety that gave the Raiders a 19-16 lead with 1:55 left in the half.

Thurston scored the Bulldogs’ only second-half points with a 48-yard run with 25.3 seconds left in the third quarter. He finished with 192 yards on 22 carries.

KARNS CITY 42, PUNXSUTAWNEY 32

KARNS CITY, Pa. — Dalton Beham ran for 279 yards and five touchdowns on 19 carries, as Karns City overcame four turnovers to top visiting Punxsutawney, 42-32

Three of Beham’s scores came after halftime, including two in the fourth quarter, to help the Gremlins (3-2, 2-1 KSAC Large School) expand on a two-point, 21-19, halftime lead.

It was actually still a two-point game, 28-26, after three quarters before Beham’s scores made it 42-26 late in the game.

Punxsutawney got a 50-yard Dylan Ishman to Tyler Richardson touchdown pass with 41 seconds left to get within 10 but failed on the two-point conversion before recovering the on-side kick.

Hunter Rowe added an 18-yard scoring run for Karns City in the second quarter and finished with 60 yards on seven carries.

Ishman and Richardson had big nights for the Chucks (1-4, 1-3) with Ishman going 16 of 25 passing for 303 yards and four touchdowns while adding a 12-yard touchdown run. Richardson had eight catches for 191 yards and two scores also catching a 56-yard touchdown pass.

Alex Gianvito also caught a pair of scoring passes from Ishman and had four catches for 87 yards.

The game featured only one punt, by Punxsutawney. Karns City’s four turnovers including an interception and three lost fumbles including losing a fumble at the Chucks 1-yard line at the end of the first half.

KANE 57, CURWENSVILLE 0

KANE, Pa. — Erik Delong carried the ball 19 times for 224 yards and four touchdowns, as Kane rolled past previously unbeaten Curwensville, 57-0, in Kane.

Ange Costanzo added eight carries for 94 yards and a touchdown for the Wolves (5-0, 1-0 AML South), who have now won 33 straight games against District 9 teams, with Jake Alcorn chipping in eight carries for 60 yards and a score. Ray Maze chipped in three catches for 48 yards and a score from Reed Williams, who was 5 of 11 passing for a touchdown and two interceptions. Gunner Fryzlewicz returned an interception for a touchdown,

Kane’s defense meanwhile held Curwensville’s Nick Stewart, the all-time leading District 9 rusher to a season-low 54 unofficial yards. The Golden Tide are now 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the South.
