Homeowners Escape Thursday Morning Fire in Richland Township

RICHLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Thursday morning fire at a home along Route 38 in Richland Township caused heavy damage; however, the residents got out safely.

According to Venango County 911, the call came in at 7:35 a.m.

The home, located about four miles north of Emlenton, is owned by William and Judy Wade according to their son-in-law, Scott Ferguson, of Grove City, Pa.

Ferguson said both of his in-laws got out of the home without being injured, but his father-in-law William Wade, who is on oxygen, needed some oxygen afterward.

“They’ve lived here a long time, since 1965 or 1966,” Ferguson said. “The Red Cross is here, there are several family members who live in the area, and we’ve already called the insurance company, so things will be okay.”

“We’re just glad they got out safely. That’s all that really matters.”

Ferguson hopes he’s done dealing with family fires. He said about 10 years ago, his mother lost her home in a fire and he lost a shop where he worked to fire a few years back.

Ferguson said firefighters removed oxygen tanks from the home before they could explode.

Ferguson’s wife, Tam, was looking for a pair of cats that also lived in the home. They got out of the residence but have not been located.
