Clarion Man Allegedly Threatens to Burn Down House, Kill Family Pets Following Assault

SLIGO, Pa. (EYT) — A Clarion man is facing assault and related charges stemming from an incident that occurred in Sligo.

According to Clarion-based State Police, around 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 20-year-old Jacob Stephen Powell, of Clarion, engaged in a physical altercation with his girlfriend — a known, 17-year-old Sligo female — at a residence on South Reidsburg Road in Sligo.

Police say Powell allegedly struck the victim in the face with a closed fist and threatened her with a knife.

In addition, Powell allegedly threatened the victim and her mother — a known, 37-year-old Sligo woman — by making statements that “he was going to burn down the residence, kill the family pets, and have them jumped.”

He was arraigned at 7:00 p.m. on September 26, in front of Magisterial District Judge Amy Long Turk on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (three counts)
– Terroristic Threats W/Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Comm. Lewd, Threatening, Etc. Language, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary
– Harassment — Course of Conduct W/No Legitimate Purpose, Summary

Unable to post $5,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on October 3 with Judge Magisterial District Judge Timothy P. Schill.
