West Forest National Honor Society sponsored a School Supply Drive for the people of Texas that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. School supplies could include notebooks, plain computer paper, notecards, post-it notes, glue, pencils, pens, tape, erasers, highlighters, permanent markers, construction paper, markers, crayons, and similar items. Supplies were also collected at East Forest. Student Council assisted in the packaging and shipping of donations to Houston.

Mr. and Mrs. Alex and fourth-grade student, Ayala Reese, are pictured here with several of the supplies that were collected during West Forest Open House. Ayla made the poster that designated the area for collection of donations.

East Forest Teachers, Local Accountant Tackle Tough Mudder

Recently, a group of East Forest teachers teamed up with a local accountant from Leeper to take on the Tough Mudder in Slippery Rock, PA. East Forest staff members Brad Roth, Ernie Hartwig, Michael Cradduck, and Chris Pappas joined forces with Dan Patton to form team #Quota in order to conquer the challenge. (The guys are listed right to left — Brad Roth is on the far right.)

The Tough Mudder is an obstacle challenge that is about 10 miles long and contains 21 obstacles. Of course, there is also plenty of mud! Mr. Cradduck approached the other members of the team last winter with the idea. He thought it would be a good way to use teamwork to motivate each other and reach the ultimate goal of finishing the course. The men decided to accept the challenge and began thinking of new ways to stay fit and be ready for the challenge. The dedication to the task was evident, as some of the team members were found taking runs of 12 or more miles to help prepare. Another member was at the gym to work out by 6:00 a.m. all summer long. While the team was on the course, they relied on teamwork to complete the obstacles. With the help of each other, every member was able to finish the course successfully and earn their Tough Mudder headband!

This experience helped the team members to realize that you can accomplish any lofty goal if you set your mind to it and work hard. It also helps to have some teammates to get you through!
