According to police, around 8:50 a.m. on October 12, 25-year-old Brittany N. Hacker, of Clarion, was driving a 2005 Mercury Sable, east on I-80, near mile marker 70.8, when a set of dual wheels from a tractor-trailer traveling westbound became dislodged from the trailer. The wheels traveled across the median and struck the front of the Mercury Sable. The car then traveled onto the south berm, hit the guide rails, and spun counter-clockwise 180 degrees and then came to a final rest on the south berm facing west. The car then caught fire.

The operator of the tractor-trailer didn’t stop and continued westbound on I-80.

Hacker, and a passenger, a two-year-old girl, were taken to Clarion Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

They have since been released from the hospital.

Hacker was using a seat belt, and the two-year-old girl was in a child safety seat.

Police were assisted at the scene by Strattanville Volunteer Fire Department, Corsica Volunteer Fire Department, Clarion Hospital EMS, and Leadbetter’s Towing.

A release issued Sunday by the State Police indicates the driver has been located; however, the driver’s name has not been released as of Monday morning.

Trooper Cloak is investigating the crash.

No further details are being released at this time.
