CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Candidates for statewide judicial positions highlighted the Annual Clarion County Democratic Fall Banquet held Saturday night at the Clarion American Legion.

County Chairman Joe Billotte emphasized the need from all Democrats to vote on November 7 in the general elections.

In addition to some county, local school board, and borough and township races, stateside judicial races include Supreme Court, Superior Court, and Commonwealth Court.

State Justice Debra Todd is running for retention in Pennsylvania’s November elections, and she welcomed the Clarion County Democrats. She offered a brief look at her credentials and the state courts system. If retained, Justice Todd will be in line to become the first female Chief Justice in Pennsylvania history.

Dwayne Woodruff is the other candidate for Supreme Court, and Todd told how Woodruff went to night school for his law degree while he was playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Representatives for Superior Court candidates Deborah Kunselman, Carolyn Nichols, Geoffrey Moulton, and Maria McLaughlin and Commonwealth Court candidates Ellen H. Ceisler and Irene Clark also spoke at the banquet.

Clarion University College Democrats Vice President Caleb Gilliland gave an update on the College Democrats and their progress in making an impact on campus this year.

The events closed with Kerith Strano Taylor, a two-time candidate for Pennsylvania’s 5th congressional district in 2014 and 2016, delivering a speech on coming back strong and motivated from the 2016 elections along with the importance of continuing “to drive confidence and turnout in the Democratic Party in rural Pennsylvania.”
