UPDATE: Mayport Man Flown to Pittsburgh Hospital After Route 28 Crash

REDBANK TWP., Pa. (EYT)— Two Clarion County men were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Route 28 in Redbank Township on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Clarion County 911, the accident occurred on Route 28 near Shannondale Road. The call came in at 2:07 p.m.

New Bethlehem Chief of Police Scott Ryan provided additional details on Thursday.

Chief Ryan told exploreClarion.com that Wayne Shirey, of Mayport, was driving a minivan north on Route 28 and was being followed by three vehicles. As Shirey waited to make a left turn onto Shannondale Road, the third vehicle behind him — another minivan, driven by Randy Bartlett of Rimersburg — entered the left lane and passed two vehicles before striking Shirey’s vehicle.

Bartlett’s vehicle traveled into a field before coming to a stop in a nearby residential yard.

Bartlett, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was removed from the vehicle by emergency crews and flown to a Pittsburgh hospital by LifeFlight helicopter.

There is no word on his current condition.

Shirey, who was wearing a seat belt, had minor injuries and was taken to Penn Highlands Brookville by Clarion EMS.

Volunteer fire departments from New Bethlehem, Hawthorn, and Summerville assisted at the scene.
