CLARION, Pa. – Clarion Hospital announced Monday that Al Taylor, MHA, FACHE was named interim chief executive officer, effective October 20. A national search for a permanent chief executive officer is underway.

Taylor replaces Bryon Quinton who is retiring at the end of the month.

Most recently, Taylor served as the principal for CIRRA, a healthcare consulting firm in Durham, NC. Prior to that, he served as the president and CEO of Carolinas Healthcare System Stanly for 11 years.

A seasoned healthcare executive, Taylor’s leadership, is credited with leading the charge for strong employee engagement, new service line implementations, and improved physician network performance. In fact, during his time as chief executive officer of Carolinas Healthcare System Stanly, the system achieved 89th percentile performance in Press Ganey Database for employee engagement. Additionally, he generated strong financial performance for the hospital and was named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of “21 Hospitals and Health Systems with Strong Finances.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to support the employees and physicians of Clarion Hospital,” said Taylor. “It’s an honor to work with a team that is deeply committed to providing quality care close to home.”

“We are confident that Al will provide strong leadership as we continue to achieve our vision and strategic goals,” said board chairman Fred Port. “His breadth of experience and strong leadership will support our continued growth and service to Clarion County as we search for a permanent CEO.”

A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), Taylor earned his master of health administration from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and his bachelor of arts in psychology from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN.
