CLARION, Pa. — The Clarion County YMCA has announced new weekend hours due to popular demand and increased membership. The YMCA will now be open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

“We were frequently hearing that members wanted longer hours on the weekends,” said Jesse Kelley, Clarion County YMCA Branch Director. “With the increase in membership, we saw the need and agreed to give it a try.”

The YMCA is hoping the Y will be utilized during the new times so they can continue with the same hours in 2018.
“It is currently a trial through the end of December,” said Kelley. “We hope to continue in January with the same hours if the Y is utilized.”

Previously, the YMCA was open 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Clarion County YMCA has seen a steady increase in membership over the last few years. In 2013 there were under 1,000 members. The YMCA hit an all-time high in membership in July 2017 with 1467 members.

Y Director Jesse Kelley attributes the growth in membership to a number of factors including more membership options including corporate memberships, the new “Buddy-Up for Fitness” Member Referral Program and categories with reduced rates for Young Adult, Senior, and Youth Members.

The membership growth can also be attributed to more programming, including senior wellness programs and youth sports programs.
