CLARION, Pa. — UPMC Northwest and the YMCA continue to partner to improve and enhance the quality of life for people in Clarion County through the YMCA Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

YMCA Cardiac Rehab Program Tech Teri Rhoads was hired earlier this year to staff the program at the YMCA, and UPMC Cardiac Rehab Nurse Stevie Black oversees the program. They work with clients three times a week at the YMCA.

Cardiac Rehabilitation is designed for those who have experienced a cardiac event and completed phase I and II of a cardiac rehabilitation program. The program is also ideal for those who suffer from heart disease, hypertension or diabetes, fibromyalgia or strokes and need to increase cardiovascular activity with some monitoring.

Cardiac Rehabilitation can help improve and maintain cardiovascular health for people recovering from an illness or event or those who are at risk. Participants in the program will also develop muscle strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Cardiac rehabilitation is currently held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. each week at the YMCA. Participants normally spend about 30 minutes doing cardiovascular activities.

Participants may arrive and get started anytime from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The program atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable. The program will allow participants to build confidence and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

A physician referral is requested to participate in the program.

The cost for Cardiac Rehabilitation is $20.00 a month for YMCA members and $45.00 for Non-members.
