Alan Roper Henschel

Alan Roper Henschel, 82, of Marienville, and formerly of New York City, died early Friday morning, October 20, 2017, at Snyder Memorial Nursing Home in Marienville.

Born June 22, 1935, in Rockville Center, Long Island, N.Y. he was the son of the late Edward Gilmore and Natalie Gertrude (Roper) Henschel.

The Henschel family lived in the town of Indian Lake and Sabael, N.Y. where Alan attended and graduated from high school in 1953.

He was of the Episcopal faith.

Mr. Henschel was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a result of the ROTC program at Pratt Institute, in NYC, where he was a student.

His unit interpreted aerial photos taken by high flying Air Force planes during the Cold War.

He was employed by A. Phillip Johnson, a leading U.S Architectural Firm in NYC and several other firms in the NYC area.

Later in life, he was a free-lance architect in the NYC area.

Mr. Henschel was interested in archaeology, especially the structures of Egypt, Central, and South America, including Machu Picchu and the Mayan Culture of Central America.

Alan is survived by a brother, Edward G. Henschel, Jr. of Marienville; 2 nieces and 2 nephews, Susan of Erie, Gail of Erie, Edward III and his wife, Barbara of Darlington, MD and Jeffrey and his special friend, Lynn of Milford, CT. He is also survived by a great niece, Meghin Henschel of Darlington, MD and her son, Noah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Interment will be private at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, Long Island, NY.
