Official County Election Results Released

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – It’s no surprise that Americans are generally not that interested in non-presidential elections, but another concern in some local municipalities is finding people who are willing to take unpaid positions.

According to county Elections Director Cindy Callihan, tax collector positions in Callensburg Borough and in Shippenville Borough could be finally decided by draws.

Callihan said in Callensburg, three candidates each received one vote — Elaine Weeter, Mary Duespohl, and Vicki Ben.

In Shippenville, six candidates each received one vote each, including Anthony Sansone, John Schreffler, Josephine Broch, Julia Shoup, Linda Baker, and Patty Eberhart.

Callihan said a draw will be held at noon, on Monday, November 27, to determine the winners.

That person will be notified to see if they want the position.

“I’m not sure this has happened before,” Callihan said. “We don’t know if they will accept the seat.”

In other county elections, there were a number of available seats that were decided by write-in votes.

In Shippenville, Gary Dittman got 19 votes and Steven Brocious received seven to claim two, four-year terms on council.

In Knox Borough, Richard Cochran won the mayoral race with 121 write-in votes. Josh Minnick was on the ballot and got 64.

For a four-year term of tax collector in Foxburg, Thomas Jerry Marron had 17 votes.

Richard Garrard won with five votes for Foxburg’s mayor position.

For Foxburg Council, Linda Gates won with 10 votes.

For a six-year term for Brady Township Supervisor, Bruce Clark got the nod with five votes.

In Callensburg, Torrey Emery got five votes for mayor. For council, Taylor Best got seven votes, and Chris Hindman got five to be elected for two four-year spots.

For a four-year term on Sligo Borough Council, David McElravy’s four write-in votes were enough to be elected.

In Strattanville Borough, John Stants got five votes for a four-term on council, and Wesley Lander got three votes for a two-year term.

In Knox Township, William Wallace collected 20 write-in votes to secure a six-year term as supervisor.

Also in Knox Township, current tax collector Linda Gatesman wasn’t on the ballot, but she did get 13 votes to keep her position.

Gateman explained that she thought she had received enough votes, 10, in the spring primary to be listed on the general election ballot, but she had received nine.

“When I got to the poll, I was a little concerned because my name wasn’t on the ballot, but it all worked out, and I will be accepting the position,” Gatesman said.

In the North Clarion School District, for a four-year term on the school board in Region I, Tom Phillips got 35 votes.
