Possible Scam in Clarion; Men Soliciting Donations Don’t Have Permit

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Clarion Borough Police are searching for two men who were reportedly entering downtown businesses on Wednesday in an attempt to solicit cash donations.

Clarion Borough Housing and Zoning Officer Scott Sharrar said the men — one white and one black — don’t have a permit to solicit from area businesses or individuals.

“We don’t know who they are, but they definitely don’t have a permit,” Sharrar said.

An employee at Vinny’s Pizza said both men came into the restaurant with boxes of lollipops and said they were taking donations for an alcohol and drugs program.

Another person who works at Daddy’s said two men came in and said they were collecting donations for a Christian program to help addicts in Cincinnati.

A person from a third business said the men had also been to their location.

The flyer the men were handing out indicated the group was the Cincinnati Restoration Church, a Christian live-in drug restoration home located at 1101 Harrison Avenue in Cincinnati.

The flyer indicates that the church doesn’t charge for its services.

The Church does have a website www.cintirestoration.org and a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pages/Cincinnati-Restoration-Church/.
