I-80 Jefferson County Rest Area 2JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that both Jefferson County rest areas, located on Interstate 80 East at mile marker 87.4 and West at mile marker 88.5, will close on Thursday, November 30, for approximately two months while the facilities undergo renovations.

The $172,000.00 project includes interior restroom renovations and an upgraded water filtration system at both sites. The project is scheduled to take approximately two months to complete, and the facilities are expected to be opening in February of 2018.

While the renovations are underway, the facility will be closed to public access. Motorists may choose Exits 78 (Route 36) Brookville and 97 (Route 219) off Interstate 80, as alternative locations for restrooms, food, gas, and other amenities.

For more information on projects occurring or being bid this year, those made possible by or accelerated by Act 89, or those on the department’s Four and Twelve Year Plans, visit www.projects.penndot.gov.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 850 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
