WEATHER ALERT: Flood Watch Issued for Area

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — A Flood Watch has been issued for Clarion County and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh issued the following weather alert at 9:57 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017:

…FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT…

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of northwest Pennsylvania, southwest Pennsylvania, west central Pennsylvania, and western
Pennsylvania, including the following areas, in northwest Pennsylvania, Forest, Mercer, and Venango. In southwest Pennsylvania, Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, and Westmoreland Ridges. In west central Pennsylvania, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson. In western Pennsylvania, Beaver, and Lawrence.

* Until 3 AM Sunday morning

* Showers and a few thunderstorms, some with heavy rainfall, will continue in several rounds ahead of a cold front. Storm total rainfall of up to 2.5 inches of rainfall is expected until the cold front passes tonight, with isolated higher totals possible.

* The expected rainfall totals could cause area streams and creeks to overflow their banks, as well as standing or flowing water across some roadways.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
