Mrs. Jaquay’s kindergarten class at West Forest Elementary went on a leaf hunt on a warm fall day. Each student found a leaf to bring back into the classroom.

During Centers, they used their special leaf to complete a leaf activity book. The students completed the following leaf activities: leaf rubbings, measured the leaf with cubes, recorded how many pennies it took to cover the leaf and how many pennies it took to sink a leaf. They also had to drop the leaf and count how many seconds it took for the leaf to reach the ground. They recorded all of the data in their leaf activity books.

West Forest third graders completed a STEM project by building different types of bridges. The goal of their engineering project was to build a bridge that would support the weight of two matchbox cars.

The bridge pictured was able to hold a full bottle of water!

Mrs. Sharrar’s students also read about the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Red Ribbon Week at West Forest Elementary

Red Ribbon Week is a special event held each year at schools across the country. Red Ribbon Week is designed to remind students of the importance of staying drug-free.

(Pictured above: students who completed the most laps around the building during the Red Ribbon Walk/Run: Conner Sliker, Quinton Mellon, and Keyon Custer.)

The theme of this year’s week was “The Future is Key, Stay Drug Free!”

The students at West Forest enjoyed many activities that they can do because they are drug-free including a run/walk and sock hop. Many of the classrooms also completed writing activities with this theme. Thank you to Mrs. Olson and all the staff at West Forest Elementary for helping with these events.
