Muriel Leone (Cochran) Beers

Muriel Beers Obit Photo (Edit)Muriel Leone (Cochran) Beers, age 85, Brookville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, with her family by her side, at the Clarion Hospital in Clarion, PA.

Born and raised in Dayton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mayme Hawk Cochran.

While attending Dayton High School, Muriel was active in both the sports and music programs. She played both piano and trumpet and was often called upon to play Taps at the military funerals in the area. Her love of music continued throughout her life. After graduation, she was employed by Sylvania Electric in Brookville, PA. During that time, she met her future husband and was married to Lester A. Beers on November 12, 1955, in Dayton PA. They enjoyed many activities together during their nearly 62-year marriage, including traveling, gardening, and many family gatherings. Muriel was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Brookville. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American revolution. As an avid genealogist for over 40 years, she verified records of fourteen ancestors who served that war.

Surviving are two daughters: Brenda (Steven) Hinderliter of Home, PA, and Pamela (Anthony) Distefano of Black Lick, PA; grandchildren Megan (Matthew) Nielsen of Saratoga Springs, UT, Lisa (Scott) Johnson of North Salt Lake, UT, Troy (Anna) Hinderliter of Home, PA, Tia Carollo of Salt Lake City, UT, Jill (James) Oliver of Pittsburgh, PA, John Distefano, Black Lick, PA, Grant Distefano, Black Lick, PA; great grandchildren Blake, Mailey, and Makenzie Nielsen, Hadley and Anders Johnson; special family friend Kathleen Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Alden Beers and a brother Howard P. Cochran. Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 8, 2017, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2017, also at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 a.m., and officiated by Reverend Nathan Royster. Burial will be at the Glade Run Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dayton, PA. Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
