Mary Jane Drake

Mary-Drake-1512917234Mary Jane Drake, 79, formerly of Oil City, died peacefully at Southwestern Nursing Care Center in West Mifflin on Friday, December 8, 2017.

Born October 21, 1938, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Charles T. and Mary A. Anderson Montgomery.

After graduating from Hampton High School, she attended Carnegie Tech where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics.

She met her husband David F. Drake when both worked at the Athenaeum Hotel in Chautauqua Institute.

They were married in 1960 and moved to Meadville, then Erie, and finally to Oil City where she resided until 2016.

David preceded her in death in 2009.

Mrs. Drake worked for many years as a substitute teacher in the Cranberry, Oil City, and Rocky Grove school districts. Later, she worked as a dietary supervisor at the Oil City Hospital.

Mary Jane was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oil City.

Surviving is a son, Christopher Drake of Munhall; a sister, Martha Teich of Eugene, OR; and a nephew, Benjamin Teich of California, MD.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan.

The family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 11 to noon.

A memorial service will be conducted in the church at noon with the Rev. Ronee Christy, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Cambridge Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, 215 E Bissell Ave, Oil City, PA 16301.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Southwestern Nursing Home’s skilled care unit who showed such caring and compassion for Mary Jane during the last year.
