Pennies from Heaven 2017 Brings Early Christmas

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Thursday was “Christmas” for 113 families in Clarion County, also known as distribution day for Pennies from Heaven at the Zion Church.

Renee Vowinckel and many other volunteer Santa helpers were on hand to help families as they shopped for gifts made possible by local donations.

“This started in 1995, but we were only able to give out a shirt a pair of jeans, and a toy,” said Vowinckel.  “It’s grown since then.”

Tuesday’s gifts included blankets, stuffed animals, hats, gloves, mittens, books, games, toys, puzzles, eight articles of clothing, one big toy, two medium toys, two small toys, paper products, and laundry detergent.

Vowinckel said, “The event helps the ‘working poor.’ One of the parents has to have a job.”
