John Joseph Algoe

Scan0001John Joseph Algoe, 83, of Mayport died early Friday morning, December 15, 2017 at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville. Born on August 27, 1934 in Fairmount City, he was the son of the late Robert M. and Alice E. (Siverling) Algoe. On October 4, 1957 he married Vivian J. (Smith).

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Shannondale. He served his country in the United States Army and was honorable discharged on December 12, 1961. He was a heavy equipment operator working for Hawk Brothers, Penn DOT and C & K Coal Co.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivian J. Algoe of Mayport, two daughters, Luanne Dunkle and her husband Terry of Fairmount City and Louise Clemens of New Bethlehem, five grandchildren, Brandon Dunkle (Lisa), Ashley Downs (Mike), Brady Clemens, Christopher Clemens (Hope), and Austin Clemens, four great granddaughters, Gracie, Sophia, Kensley, and Ellie, and a brother, Thomas A. Algoe and his wife Sue of Mayport.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded I death by a son, Alan Algoe, two brothers, Robert R. Algoe and Warren H. Algoe,  a sister, June Hoffman, a half brother and sister, Ralph “Doc” Songer and Della Lucas, and a son-in-law, Kevin Clemens.

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating. Interment will be in the Shannondale Union Cemetery, Redbank Township, Clarion County.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
