Marjorie Marie (Fly) Zimmerman

Zimmerman, Marjorie Obit Photo (Edit)Marjorie Marie (Fly) Zimmerman, 93, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, widow of Clarence Elbert Zimmerman (deceased 4/16/05) was the daughter of James Asher and Lola Myrtle Chastain Fly, born February 13, 1924 in Reed Spring, Missouri.

Protestant by faith, she attended the Community Church, which was supplied by a Presbyterian Minister, Rev. C. E. Beech. At the time of death, she was attending Hallton Church of Christ and Edeburn United Methodist Church. Marjorie was Valedictorian of Reeds Spring, Missouri High School and attended Nursing School – Burge Hospital, Drury College, Springfiled, MO.

She went to St. Louis for psychiatric training and then moved to Hallton with her late husband, Clarence, when he returned from military service. They had five children: daughters: Lola Christine (R.D.) Stoughton, Eldred, PA; Lois Jean (Robert) Fowler, Butler, PA; Muriel Ann (deceased) (Gary) Talkington, Fairfax, VA; Claire Marie (Daniel) Steffy, Mars, PA; and son James Frederick, with whom she lived on Pine Bark Road, Sigel, PA, Elk County.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Marjorie was involved in community activities, assistant to Postmaster Lois Rhodes (Hallton, PA), taught Sunday School 20 years at Donahey Church, took Lay Speaker courses and qualified and enjoyed Hymn Sings at the churches and Homecomings at Edeburn Church.

She served on the School Board in the jointure with East Forest School. Marjorie was a member of Ladies’ Aid, helped with blood pressure clinics as history nurse at bloodmobiles where she donated 87 units of blood. She served as clerk then Secretary of Millstone Township Board of Supervisors for 20 years, attending county and state conventions. Member of Sigel Volunteer Fire Company Ward 2, Station 14. Took First Responder courses. She was an avid reader; enjoying the books given to her and the book sales at the Rebecca M. Arthur Library and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Muriel Ann Talkington, two brothers, Joy Ray Fly, Arizona, Roy Fly and sister Muriel Henderson, Reeds Spring, MO.

Visitation will be at McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, from 11am – 1pm.

A funeral service will immediately follow the viewing, beginning at 1pm, with the message by Pastor Ron Burkett. Interment will take place at the Donahey Hill Cemetery, Millstone Twp., Elk County.
