UPDATE: Fire at Leeper Business Contained to Boiler House

LEEPER, Pa. (EYT) — Multiple local fire departments were dispatched to a minor structure fire on Thursday afternoon in Leeper, Farmington Township.

According to Clarion County 911, the call came in at 4:06 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, for a report of a structure fire at Kahle’s Kitchens, located at 7488 Route 36.

The fire was contained to a boiler building at the facility.

According to Rick Irwin, Sales Manager of Kahle’s Kitchens, “There is a sawdust and chip collection bin at the top of the hill that we use to supply a boiler to heat the plant and the showroom, and that’s how we recycle our wood waste. Somehow, the filter bags on top caught on fire, and the entire collection bin had to be emptied underneath them because the sparks and burnt bags fell into the top of that. We removed a panel on the bottom of the bin and drained out the remaining chips and hosed them down, so no hot ashes remained and piled them in another place.”

Rick says the fire departments were at the scene because of the chance of it spreading; the amount of wood in the facility would have caused a major blaze.

Farmington Twp. VFC, Shippenville-Elk VFD, Washington Twp. VFD, Marienville VFC, and Clarion Fire & Hose Company No. 1 were called to the scene.

Clarion Hospital EMS was also dispatched.

No injuries were reported.

The scene was cleared at 7:51 p.m.
