Bowser Hits Late Shot to Force OT, Scores 31 in Union Boys’ Win over Sheffield

SHEFFIELD, Pa. (D9Sports) — Lucas Bowser banked in a 22-foot, off-balanced shot with about 20 seconds to play to force overtime, and Union outscored Sheffield 16-8 in overtime to get a 65-57 win in the opening round of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Christmas Tournament.

The Golden Knights trailed by seven, 38-31, going to the fourth quarter but rallied behind 10 points from Lucas Bowser, who finished with a game-high 31 points to go with 13 rebounds, to tie the game at 49 after regulation. Lucas Bowser then continued his hot play in overtime netting six points, while Nolan Cumberland had eight of his 14 in the extra session. Cumberland added nine rebounds with Reice Saylor grabbing 11 boards to go with six points.

Cale Albaugh paced Sheffield with 19 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Luke Davidson chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds.

Union will take on Kane in Thursday’s title game with Sheffield facing Youngsville in the consolation contest.

A-C VALLEY 56, FOREST AREA 41

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. — Four players reached double digits to help A-C Valley to a 56-41 win over Forest Area on the opening day of the North Clarion Holiday Classic.

Brendan Price had 15 points, 11 rebounds and six steals, Dalton Callendar added 15 points and five steals, Jeff Ginn chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Levi Orton added 10 points for the Falcons.

Seth Berlin led Forest Area with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Jarrett Kahle added nine points.

NORTH CLARION 66, REDBANK VALLEY 41

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. — Led by 17 points and 10 rebounds from Nathan Banner, North Clarion cruised past visiting Redbank Valley, 66-41, on the opening day of the North Clarion Holiday Classic.

Keeven Weaver added seven points, five rebounds and four steals for the Wolves, who also got 11 points from Korey Mills, eight from Jesse Schmader and four points and five assists from Zander Hargenrader.

Brock Barrett paced Redbank Valley with 14 points with Keaton Kahle adding 11 points.

CLARION 56, PUNXSUTAWNEY 49

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — Overcoming a 17-point deficit after one quarter, an 11-point hole at halftime and a seven-point deficit going to the fourth quarter, Clarion rallied to beat Punxsutawney, 56-49, in the opening round of the Carl Truance Holiday Tournament at Punxsutawney.

The Bobcats trailed 23-6 at the end of the first quarter and 27-16 at halftime and 37-30 going to the fourth quarter before outscoring Punxsutawney, 26-12, in the final eight minutes.

Austin Hummell scored six of his 17 points in the fourth quarter while Calvin German added five of his eight in the frame.

Josh Craig also scored 13 points for Clarion with Archer Mills also adding eight points.

Ethan Blose led Punxsutawney with 15 points with Brandon Matthews adding 13 and Tyler Richardson 11.

Clarion will take on Bald Eagle Area, an 80-60 winner over Marion Center, in the championship game Thursday with Punxsutawney facing Marion Center in the consolation contest.

KANE 64, YOUNGSVILLE 24

SHEFFIELD, Pa. — Behind Chad Greville’s triple-double of 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, Kane rolled to a 64-24 win over Youngsville in the opening round of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Christmas Tournament.

Al Rezzelle added 14 points for the Wolves with Tommy Holt chipping in 11.

Kane will take on Union in the championship game Thursday with Sheffield facing Youngsville in the consolation contest.
