Donald E. McMullen

mcmullenDonald E. McMullen, 93, of Franklin, formerly of Sandy Lake, passed away early Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2017) in the VA Medical Center, Pittsburgh.

Born June 16, 1924, in Stoneboro, he was a son of Carson J. and Nina L. Gardner McMullen.

Don graduated from Sandy Lake High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served his country as a gunner in a B-17 bomber with the 369th Squadron of the 306th Bombardment, Group (H), Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, England.

Don retired after 39 years as a coil winder from the Westinghouse Electric, Sharon Transformer Division, and also for more than 20 years was a meat cutter for McKean’s Golden Dawn of Sandy Lake.

He was a member of Lake Lodge 434, Free and Accepted Masons, Sandy Lake, with Scottish Rites and Zem Shrine, Erie.

Don loved the outdoors, especially hunting and being with nature.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna K. Kordich and husband Dave, of Locust Grove, Va.; two sons, Ronald E. McMullen and wife Lonna, of Meadville, and David B. McMullen of Franklin; and brother, Charles “Chuck” McMullen and his companion Melba of Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Don was loved by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His grandchildren include Ronald McMullen, Jr. and wife Pattie; Kevin McMullen; Michael McMullen and wife Tammie; Sara Miller and husband Zach; Mara Sterling and husband Shawn; Carly Crowder and husband Frankie; Ryan McMullen and wife Jenna; Mariah McDaniel and husband Dan; and Geralyn McMullen.

His wife, the former Geraldine V. Kilgore, whom he married July 7, 1947, preceded him in death Dec. 11, 1992.

In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Iva Marie McMullen, two sisters and three brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Cemetery Association, c/o Maxine Hughes, 15 Hughes Lane, Mercer, 16137.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, in the SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

A funeral service is scheduled for Noon on Saturday, December 30, 2017, in the New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer St., Sandy Lake, with Rev. Aaron J. Gadsby, pastor of Mountain View Wesleyan Church, Bath, officiating.

Interment will be held at Zion Cemetery, Worth Township, Stoneboro.
