Kmart In Sugarcreek Borough Will Close in April

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — Another Kmart store in the region is closing.

According to a statement posted on its website, Sears Holdings Co., the firm that owns the Kmart, has confirmed the store located in Sugarcreek Borough just outside of Franklin will close in early April. Store employees were informed Thursday.

The Clarion Kmart is scheduled to close by the end of January.

In Pennsylvania, more than a dozen Kmart stores have closed in the last few years, the closest being in Butler, DuBois, and Erie.

Nationwide, in the last two years, there have been more than 200 Kmart and about 60 Sears stores either close or will close by this fall, including the Sears in the Cranberry Mall, which closed at the end of October.

The most recent nationwide store closings were announced last week. In Pennsylvania, four Kmart stores, including one near Coraopolis, and two in the eastern part of the state are closing.

Sears Holdings also announced the closing of Sears stores in State College and at Lycoming Mall in Muncy.

In Venango County, Kmart opened on Allegheny Boulevard in Sugarcreek in 1981 before eventually building a new store nearby in 1994, moving there in 1995.
