RIMERSBURG Pa. (EYT) – Water testing will be ongoing as the Boil Water Advisory (BWA) remains in effect for the East Brady, Petrolia, and Rimersburg areas.

According to Dana Solida, Rimersburg Borough Secretary, the recent weather is to blame for the necessity of the advisory, “Two of the well-heads from where our water is supplied in East Brady were submerged in the flooding Friday.”

“The DEP has met and has given instructions for specific testing that must be completed over a two-day period, Wednesday, January 17, and Thursday, January 18,” said Solida.

“Depending upon the results, which should be available Friday, January 19, the DEP will make a determination as to what needs to happen next with respect to the boil water advisory.”

Under a Boil Water Advisory, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that water be brought to a rolling boil for one minute before it is consumed in order to kill protozoa, bacteria, and viruses. At altitudes above 2,000 meters (6,561 feet), boiling should be extended to three minutes, as the lower boiling point at high altitudes requires more time to kill such organisms.
