According to TribLive.com, Butler-based State Police charged five students, ages 12 to 15, with summary offenses of transmitting sexually explicit images by a minor.

The students, who weren’t identified, were from East Brady, Chicora, and Petrolia. The incidents happened sometime between Dec. 1 and Jan. 25.

State police said two girls, ages 12 and 14, texted nude pictures of themselves to two boys, ages 14 and 15.

The photos were then sent to a 13-year-old boy, and other children, which state police said also made the two girls victims.

Karns City School District declined to comment on the investigation.

“Due to student confidentiality laws, we are unable to comment on specific student issues or any resulting disciplinary action,” said in a faxed response to exploreClarion.com late Tuesday afternoon.

“We thank you for understanding that the district is not at liberty to share any further details as this is a criminal matter and the parties involved are entitled to privacy until criminal charges are concluded.”

The investigation is ongoing.
