West Forest Students Take Annual Trip to Tionesta Fish Hatchery

TIONESTA, Pa. — The West Forest fourth-grade and tenth-grade cell biology students made their annual trip to the Tionesta Fish Hatchery last month.

WCO Erik Shellgren spoke with the group first. Students were introduced to hatchery employees, Ben, Craig, and Kelly, who took the students on the tour. There were three locations: the hatch house with eggs and fry; the raceways with young adult trout; and the visitors center where WCO Mark Kerr gave a powerpoint show on Pennsylvania snakes.

As always, this annual field trip was very educational. Students were informed about the life cycle of the rainbow trout which are stocked in our local streams.
