C-L, North Clarion Qualify for State Academic Decathlon

ALBION, Pa. (EYT) — Two Clarion County schools will compete in the upcoming Pennsylvania Academic Decathlon competition after strong performances last weekend at the Western Region Academic Decathlon at Northwestern High School February 9-10.

Clarion-Limestone High School’s academic team (pictured above) won the Western Region Academic Decathlon competition while North Clarion placed second.

Both teams will compete in the state competition on home turf at Clarion University March 9-10.

Clarion-Limestone won the Small School division with 37,573 points.

Andrew Forrest led the team, winning eight medals. Forrest claimed five gold medals in music, art, literature, economics, and science. He also received silver medals in math and social science and placed second in the overall small school scholastic division.

Katie Melcher won gold medals in music, art, literature, science, and social science. She also received silver medals in economics and math and placed second in the overall small school varsity division.

Tre Haines won a gold medal in economics and bronze medals in music, science, and speech. He claimed silver medals in interview and social science.

Mitchell Knepp won a gold medal in music, and three silver medals in literature, speech, and economics.

Greyson Knepp received a gold medal in speech, silver medals in art, science, and essay, and bronze medals in literature and social science.

Reecie Boyles claimed a gold medal in literature, a silver medal in art and essay, and a bronze medal in economics.

Ian McNaughton received gold medals in art and social science, silver medals in economics and science, and a bronze medal in essay.

Katelyn Clover won a bronze medal in literature.

North Clarion Academic DecathlonNorth Clarion placed fifth overall and second in the small schools division.

North Clarion students earned 24 individual medals.

Dalton Brown won gold medals in math and science and broke the school record for his math score, previously held by Josh Fitzgerald from 2008.

Aubree Kerle brought home five medals, including the gold in speech, silver medals in essay, science, and interview, and the bronze in math. She also broke the school record in speech previously held by Morgan Mays from 2014.

Avari Schwabenbauer earned the gold medal in essay and bronze medals in economics and art. Lia Evans earned three bronze medals in math, music, and speech.

Trevor Amsler earned a gold in math, silver in music, and bronze in economics. He also broke his own school record in math that he shared with Charlie Bendal and Scott Delaney from 2012.

Piper Deese earned a silver in art and bronze medals in essay and interview. Mollie Cochran earned the gold in speech, silver in art, and bronze medals in social science and interview.

Andrew Ochs earned the bronze in art.

Coaches Jackie Bauer and Gina Koch are very proud of the entire team’s hard work and accomplishments.

The North Clarion team is very thankful to the teachers, administration, staff, school board, parents, and the North Clarion Foundation for their continuous support of the program.
