Corsica Man Crashes Pickup on Route 949

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — State police say a one-vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Route 949 in Union Township, Jefferson County.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 4:24 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 45-year-old Leonard W. Hughes, of Corsica, was driving a 2006 Chevy Silverado north on Route 949 when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Howe Road.

Police say Hughes was driving too fast for the wet roadway, and he lost control on Howe Road near its intersection with Mill Creek School Road. The pickup crossed over the roadway, hit a drainage ditch, and came to a rest.

Hughes and his passenger, a 13-year-old boy, were using seat belts and were not injured.

Hughes was charged with a traffic violation.

The pickup sustained disabling damage and was removed from the scene by Leadbetter’s Towing.
