Clarion U. Finish Dual Match Season With Loss at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Clarion wrestling team wrapped up the 2018 dual match season on Sunday afternoon, falling by a final score of 25-13 to West Virginia in Morgantown.

Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles finish the year with a 10-7 record, their first winning season in dual match competition since 2002-03. They will next be in action on March 3 when they compete at the EWL Championships hosted by Edinboro.

Brock Zacherl improved to 26-0 on the season with a win over Christian Monserrat, eking out a 3-2 decision at 141 pounds to finish the dual match season undefeated. Zacherl is 45-1 in dual matches in his career and has now won 43 straight duals dating all the way back to his redshirt freshman season in 2015-16.

He was not the only Brookville, Pa. native to take a decision on Sunday. Taylor Ortz improved to 24-9 on the season with a win over Kyler Rea at 149 pounds. Ortz defeated Rea by a 7-4 decision, cutting West Virginia’s lead in the team match to just 12-6 after four bouts of action.

Senior Dom Rigous was the next Golden Eagle to win on Sunday, beating the Mountaineers’ Parker Von Egidy by a 7-4 score at 174 pounds. Toby Cahill rounded out the day with a victory over Brandon Ngati in the heavyweight bout, snapping a three-bout losing streak with a 12-2 major decision.
